Kinect – Microsoft releases Windows version

Microsoft launched Kinect accessory for PCs and laptops running on a Windows platform. The already available for Xbox, was released in the Windows version on February 1.

Thus, with this device the user can control his PC or laptop through gestures and voice commands. Also, through technology “near mode” the user can do this from a distance of 40 cm.

Kinect for Windows also comes with the improved technology named “Skeletal tracking”, which allows to distinguish between users. Also, this model comes with audio and voice recognition functions improved. Thus, Kinect can have a better capture of user’s voice and remove background noise.

Another thing you need to know is that this accessory is compatible with operating systems Windows 7 and Windows 8 Developer Preview. Also, Kinect system requirements are: dual core processor operating at a frequency of 2.66 GHz and a minimum of 2 GB RAM memory.

Currently, Kinect for Windows is available only in USA. However, the manufacturer announced that it will be released soon in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, Mexico, New Zealand and Spain.

In terms of price, it should be noted that it is slightly higher for Kinect for Windows than for Xbox. Thus, if the Xbox version may be purchased for the price of 200 $ for Windows version will cost about 1100 $.
